As easy as 1-2-3

Installing a Swagelok tube fitting couldn't be simpler - three steps and you're done. Even so, our trainers and field technicians see at least two common installation errors. To keep you on track, we've prepared this short Tech Clip video showing the correct way to install Swagelok fittings from 1/4 inch (or 6 millimetres), to 1 inch (or 25 millimetres).

To see how Swagelok tube fittings look when assembled, just examine it when you open the package: It comes to you completely assembled, finger-tight, and ready for immediate use. It's best to avoid disassembling the tube fittings prior to installation. Installation itself is easy:

Step 1: Fully insert the tube into the fitting and against the shoulder, and rotate the nut to make sure it is finger tight.

Step 2: Mark the nut at the 6 o'clock position.

Step 3: While holding the fitting body steady, tighten the nut one and one-quarter turns to the 9 o'clock position, and the job is done.

That's all there is to it.

Mistakes to avoid

No matter how easy and simple the instructions are, some people can get careless or get it into their heads that they "know" a better procedure. Regardless of the reason, we find two common errors in training classes and in the field that can cause expensive leaks and problems.

The first error is failing to fully insert the tube into the fitting and making sure it rests firmly against the shoulder of the fitting body. The second error is relying on "feel" instead of the one and one-quarter from finger-tight instructions.

Stick with our simple installation instructions and you'll avoid these errors, eliminate the variables involved in an installation by feel, and ensure sufficient pull-up and a leak tight seal on every installation.

The video covers the basics, but there's plenty more to learn about fluid system design and installation. Our Swagelok training seminars are a great way to expand your knowledge.
