In-House Design, Fabrication, Assembly, and Testing

Led by Custom Solutions Manager Tristian McCallion, our team of certified fluid system advisors, designers, assemblers, and testers work in a state of the art shop in Edmonton—steps away from our well-stocked warehouse. No project is too large or too small, and often we can help even if time is tight.

Design Consulting

Safe, economical designs

Certified experts review your design or collaborate with you to make one.  We ensure economical design and pull from $10M in inventory steps from our shop. Tight deadline? Often we can accelerate your project. Need a shelter, rack, header, etc? We make those too.

TESTING (3)

In-house testing

Choose from hydro, pneumatic, and helium leak testing. We test down to 1x10-6 — tighter tolerance than traditional leak testing. Our in-house capabilities allow for modifying valves, doing repairs, and the like too. We can even take a unit into the field for testing.

Tom-CustomPanel(600)

Expert support

Our goal is seamless integration with your fluid systems, people, and processes. We come onsite to personally answer any questions from installers, operators, technicians, and managers. Practice operation, discuss maintenance, and fine-tune while our expert is on hand.

Custom Solutions Examples

Assemblies Tube Bending

Tube Bending

Our CNC bender can bend stainless steel tubing of 1/4" to 1", with any wall thickness, to any angle, up to 42" radius.

Assemblies Sample Cylinder Assemblies

Sample Cylinder Assemblies

Cylinder assemblies are available in ten standard sizes, from 150 cm3 to 3,785 cm3. Customize with purge bypass tube.

Assemblies Filter Retainer Assemblies

Filter Retainer Assemblies

Get a one-piece assembly that replaces the separate "circlip" retaining ring, mesh and filter ring of the old design.

Assemblies Regulator Assemblies

Regulator Assemblies

Our regulator assemblies are designed for safety, easy installation, intuitive operation, and low maintenance.

Collaborative Process

We emphasize safety and quality in a collaborative process:

1. Share your idea

Share a scribble on the back of a napkin (we have received these by fax!) or CADs with detailed design. We can start from scratch or at any stage.

2. Collaboration

Short deadline? Tight space? Budget pressure? Maintenance access or regulatory compliance issues? We ask about needs large and small.

3. Review drawing

We work in your files or provide new sales drawings or CAD drawings with detailed technical quotations. Then we can iterate.

4. Assembly

To ensure consistent precision production, Swagelok-certified technicians who have undergone extensive training handle assembly.

5. Testing

Pressure testing is standard. We also offer helium leak testing, hydrostatic testing, nitrogen pressure testing, and pressure decay testing.

6. Support

We build in time to be onsite during commissioning. This helps ensure seamless integration of the assembly into your facility.

Swagelok Quality System (SQS) Delivers Consistent Results

Whether you require one hundred identical engineered-to-order assemblies or a simple bend in one piece of tubing, we follow the same proven process and quality system.

One of the ways Swagelok works to ensure quality is by requiring all personnel to complete appropriate certification programs. Under no circumstances are workers allowed to perform a task without the appropriate credentials. Swagelok is in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements.

Custom Solutions Case Study

Assembly _ Gas Distribution Program Case Study

A leading chemical company was experiencing issues with delivering dozens of specialty gases at an R&D facility. They needed to prevent leaks of hazardous gases and reducing gas panel replacement and maintenance costs. Replacing just 10% of gas panels cost an average of $58,500 per year.

Swagelok advisors discussed the savings possible from standardizing gas panel design throughout the system. The panels incorporated dedicated lines for safer purging, made it easier to access to critical relief valves, and standardized footprint. Overall the customer enhanced system and site safety, reduced gas panel maintenance time by 75%, reduced its carbon footprint, and started saving $52,000 on panel replacement every five years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Design
Can we include non-Swagelok components?

Some assemblies may incorporate non-Swagelok components. Each project is evaluated individually.

Who handles design?

A fluid systems expert on our dedicated Custom Solutions team. Should a project warrant it, we can draw on 100 more Swagelok Engineers around the world. All are technical experts in fluid and sampling systems and have comprehensive knowledge of Swagelok products and their applications—including tubing, fittings, valves, and more.

Do you check what's in stock before designing?

Yes. We make sure we fully understand your needs, including time pressure. With our huge warehouse onsite, there's rarely any waiting for components to arrive.

Can you stamp drawings?

We would third party this service.

Fabrication
What are your fabrication capabilities?

We can fabricate just about anything that has fluid system components on it.

Can you do tube bending? Which materials?

We offer CNC, benchtop, and hand tube bending with various materials. Our CNC bender can bend stainless steel tubing of 1/4" to 1", with any wall thickness, to any angle, up to 42" radius.

Can you make a support structure too?

Yes. For example, we build bottle racks. Our shop has all the equipment for each step required to deliver a total solution—like cutting, welding, and bending.

Can you fabricate on site?

Not at this time. We are focused on shop fabrication.

Assembly

What are your assembly capabilities?

We build analytical subsystems, gas distribution systems, grab sampling systems, hose assemblies, regulator assemblies, and more. Capabilities include but are not limited to the following: Connecting tube fittings with valves, filters, hoses, etc. Assemblies with hose insulation, protection, assembly. Assemblies with threaded, VCR, VCO, welded, other seals. Assemblies with tapered and parallel pipe threads. Liquid-filling of pressure gauges. Assemblies using Modular Platform Components (MPC). Assemblies that incorporate wiring, automation, transmitters, relays, pumps, and other non-Swagelok components.

What if we need automation or other features?

Some assemblies may incorporate non-Swagelok components. Each project is evaluated individually.
