New Technical Briefing: Gas Distribution Systems with Swagelok's Karim Mahraz

Learn about a recent presentation on gas distribution system best practices by Swagelok's analytical instrumentation guru Karim Mahraz.

Last month Karim Mahraz MBA, MA, BS, Product Manager/Analytical Instrumentation & Custom Solutions at Swagelok Company, led a discussion of common challenges with today's industrial gas distribution systems. Access to the recorded session and free related resources here:

Technical Briefings

The discussion covered what a gas distribution system is, why to make such systems a priority, common challenges, the role of pressure regulators, and the benefits of using Swagelok's innovative solutions.

Karim explained that gas distribution systems deliver gases from a high-pressure source to the facility at the pressure and flow rate required by each application. Doing so efficiently and safely is at the core of operations for many of our customers in oil & gas, chem refining, power, midstream, and steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD).

Examples in the presentation illustrated common gas distribution system issues, which can result not only in loss of gases, but also in safety hazards, lost process efficiency, and unplanned downtime.

The right pressure regulators are critical to gas distribution systems, Karim showed. But few crews have someone specializing in avoiding droop, lock-up, choked flow, and supply-pressure effect. That's why many companies consult with Swagelok technologists. They can help pinpoint correct inlet and delivery pressures, explain considerations for different media, and highlights where a two-stage regulator is required.

Karim has led Swagelok's Analytical Instrumentation, Custom & Application Solutions product line since 2014. Before that, he served Swagelok as Application Engineer, developing engineer-to-order fluid and fluid-control systems by reviewing and interpreting customers technical needs and develop specific products & solutions to meet these needs. Earlier he was Manufacturing Engineer at Swagelok, serving as a process engineer for chemical & manufacturing operations. Karim holds a master's degree in mechanical engineering (MEng) and a master's degree in business administration (MBA).
